HEALTH CARE: Whenever our body faces health complications, it gives many signals. Some symptoms come out strongly while there are some which need to be understood wisely and on time. There are some symptoms that indicate whether your liver is in bad condition or not. By recognizing these signs, you can take steps towards taking proactive measures to protect your liver and overall well-being.

Feeling loss of appetite: If your liver is not functioning properly then the first symptom is that you are feeling loss of appetite. Sudden changes in eating patterns and distaste for some of your favorite foods also indicate that your liver is not in good health. The liver’s involvement in metabolism and digestion means that its impairment impacts your desire to eat and enjoy food.

Vomiting and dizziness: Persistent feelings of muscle pain along with vomiting and dizziness can serve as symptoms of liver trouble. The liver helps remove waste products from the body, so malfunction can cause symptoms of nausea due to a build-up of toxins in the bloodstream.

nail changes
nail changes Terry’s nails are a medical condition that causes the nails to have a distinctive appearance. In this condition, the area under the nails appears pale or white, often with a narrow band of normal pink or red at the ends. This happens due to changes in the blood supply and protein structure of the nails.

Blisters and scars on the skin: Many times blisters and marks start appearing on your skin. This happens due to the formation of some proteins (porphyrins) in the liver and then getting into your blood and skin. These proteins make your skin very sensitive, especially when exposed to sunlight. This excess porphyrin accumulates in the skin, making it sensitive and causing blisters, scars, and hair growth.

Darkening of the neck: Be alert if suddenly dark spots start appearing on the neck because excessive insulin in the body due to insulin resistance, which is often associated with fatty liver disease and irregular liver function, can cause acanthosis nigricans. This condition is characterized by darkening of the skin in certain areas such as the folds of the neck due to excess insulin.

Feeling pain in the upper part of the stomach: If you feel mild pain in the upper right part of your stomach, it may be a sign of inflammation or congestion of the liver. Monitoring and assessing this discomfort may provide information about potential liver health concerns that should warrant a visit to a doctor for immediate medical attention.

Yellowness on the skin or eyes: Symptoms of jaundice, which can be identified by yellowing of the eyes and skin, are a major indicator of an impaired liver. The liver’s challenge in processing the yellow bilirubin produced by the breakdown of red blood cells causes its accumulation in the body, resulting in the characteristic discolouration. Bilirubin, normally metabolized and excreted by a healthy liver, can build up when the liver is not functioning properly.

Accumulation of fluid in the stomach: Ascites is the accumulation of excess fluid in the abdominal cavity, caused by low albumin production by the liver. Albumin, an important protein, helps regulate fluid balance. Ascites can cause discomfort, swelling in the abdomen, difficulty in daily activities and difficulty in breathing.

Yellow stool: If the liver is not functioning properly, it may produce insufficient bile, causing stool to become yellow or clay-colored. This change in the color of stool indicates liver related problems.

Wound not healing quickly: The liver plays an important role in the production of proteins needed for blood clotting. When the liver is damaged, its ability to produce these clotting proteins decreases. This reduction in clotting protein production increases the likelihood of bruising from even minor injuries, resulting in wounds that bleed for a longer period of time and usually clot faster. If you experience any of these complications, please consult a doctor.
