What is quadrangle?

Quadle is a five-letter word guessing game similar to Wordle, except that each guess applies letters to four words at the same time. For guessing all four words correctly you get nine guesses instead of six. It feels like playing four word games at the same time, and that’s basically it. But it is not as scary as it seems.

Is Qword harder than Wordle?

Yes, although in a mischievous way it is not so.

Where did Quadle come from?

In the midst of the Wordle boom of late 2021 and early 2022, when everyone was learning to love free, in-browser, once-a-day word guessing games, creator Freddy Meyer says he worked on the first big Wordle editions. One of them, inspired by Wordle – the one where you essentially play two Wordles together. They took things up a notch, and released Quardle on January 30th. Mayer’s creation was covered in The Guardian six days later, and now, according to Mayer, it attracts millions of daily users. Today, Meyer earns a modest income from Patreon, where dedicated Quardle fans can donate to keep their favorite puzzle game running.

How is quadrille pronounced?

Quardle. It should be pronounced like wordl and certainly not exactly like curdle.

Is the quadrangle strategy different from the quadrangle?

Yes and no. Your initial strategy should be similar to Wordl. In fact, if you have a favorite Wordle initialism, there’s no reason to change it here. We recommend something rich in vowels, including common letters like C, R, and N. But you do it. However, after your first guess, if you play Quardle exactly like Wordle you will find things getting out of control.

What should I do in Qword that I don’t do in Wordle?

Solving a Word puzzle can famously lead to a series of single-letter-change variations. If you narrowed it down to ‘-IGHT’, you could guess ‘may’, ‘night’, ‘light’ and ‘sight’ and one of those would probably be the solution – although even this would eventually lose. This is a famous way to get into Wordle, especially if you play on ‘Hard Mode’. However, in Quordle, this type of single-letter winnowing is a deadly trap, and it hints at the important strategic difference between Wordle and Quordle: In Quordle, you can’t afford to waste guesses unless you’re more. Do not remove more than 100 characters. This is possible all the time.

Guessing a completely random word you already know isn’t the solution, just to eliminate three or four possible letters you haven’t tried yet is a desperate, latch-key ditching in Word. Considered as a trick. However, in Quardle, it is a normal part of the player’s strategic toolset.

Is there any way to get the answer faster?

In our experience Quardle can be a slow game, sometimes taking longer than it would take to play Wordle four times. But a kind of blunt-force estimating approach can speed things up. If you just want the solution, and don’t care about making the lowest possible guess, the following strategy works with Wordle as well.

Try starting with a string of words that puts all the vowels (including Y) on the board along with some other common letters. We’ve had good luck with three words: ‘nots, acrid, and lumpy. YouTuber DougMansLand suggests four words: CANOE, SKIRT, PLUMB and FUDGY.

Most of the alphabet has now been removed, and you will only have one or two wrong guesses if you use this strategy. But in most cases, you will have all the information you need to guess the remaining words without making any mistakes. If the strategy isn’t helping, and you’re still confused, here are some pointers.
